What is Eco-Drive?Citizen Eco-Drive watches use the most technically advanced power generating and storage system in the watch manufacturing industry. A Solar panel teamed up with an energy cell is the power source for the Eco-Drive. The Eco-Drive's ability to use light-energy from any source (sun, lamps, table lights etc. etc.) to generate electrical power means your energy supply is limitless and free.
What is a Eco-Drive Solar Panel?
The Eco-Drive watch uses a thin disc of amorphous silicon under the dial to convert light energy into electrical energy through the photovoltaic process. The electrical energy is then stored in a special energy storage cell. The charging is done in a more efficient manner than was ever before thought possible. Because of this newly developed technology, it is now practical to use a wide variety of attractive and colorful dials.
How is Energy Stored?
A special EcoDrive energy storage cell is used to store the electricity from the converted light energy. The quality of the cell precludes it from being affected from the regular charge/discharge cycle as with an ordinary battery. With normal care and exposure to light, the owner can be assured of a lifetime of reliable and trouble free power. As an added benefit to the environment, the energy cell does not contain the chemicals used in ordinary watch batteries.
Eco-Drive Stopped?
Your Eco Drive needs light to operate correctly. Easy as that. No $10.00+ battery charge. Just walk outside.

How often should the Eco Drive be exposed to light?
Depending on model. Every Eco-Drive model enjoys regular exposure to light. It needs it for proper function and charging. If it has stopped operating try giving it light.
Side Note:
Usually the light in your office, or school is insufficient to achieve a full charge from a completely depleted power reserve. Citizen recommends that you use natural outdoor light from the sun, or an incandescent light source 20" from the watch for charging a watch. Not to scare you, your office, or school light is sufficient for keeping your watch continually charged. It's only a depleted power cell that needs the sun light.
The more complications your eco drive has, the more power it will use. The more power being used, the more recharging you will have to do.
Additional Notes:
After a full recharge from a low or no charge state, it will be necessary to perform an all reset and in some cases a 0-positioning. If this is not done, your watch may not operate correctly.
For simple analog models, pull the crown out the time setting position, leave there for 30 seconds, return the crown to the closed position next to the case, then set the time. For other than simple analog models (perpetual calendar, multi-function and specialty pieces), please refer to your instruction manual or the instruction sets on our web site for the all reset and 0-positioning procedures.
