Palladium is a soft, ductile, steel-white, tarnish-resistant, and it can be beaten into thin leaf. Palladium also resembles platinum but is the least dense and has the lowest melting point of the platinum group metals. Palladium is found in nature with platinum minerals and is considered to be a precious metal.
It is alloyed for use in electric contacts, jewelry, nonmagnetic watch parts, and surgical instruments. Adding small amounts of palladium alloyed with yellow gold will yield the best and more durable white gold.
Because it can absorb large amounts of hydrogen, it is used as a purification filter for hydrogen and a catalyst in hydrogenation.
1 ounce of Palladium = $336.36 while 1 ounce of Platinum = $1,194.00! Prices subject to change and in US Dollars.
