Quick Facts on Zalium

Zalium is a zirconium-based alloy and gets it's name from Zirconium combined with allium lily. Reportedly far harder than titanium, Zalium is used primarily in the aerospace industry in jet engines, to make surgical tools and in a rare instance a fine jewelry watch case.

Zalium is difficult to work with and must be machined from a bar or block. Zalium dust is also very flammable.

The first timepiece which is made from Zalium is "Project Z1" created by Harry Winston. Harry Winston Project Z1 was introduced no less than three Harry Winston firsts:

1- Its material is Zalium which is used exclusively in the aerospace industry and patented by Ronald Winston himself. (the first in the industry to use this metal)
2- Its self-winding chronograph movement with off-centered triple retrograde display.
3- Its resolutely novel case on which the famous arches were serving as bracelet attachments on all other models was moved to the 3 o’clock position to serve as a crown guard.

Movement: Self-winding Automatic (base F. Piguet 1185) with a Harry Winston designed module, Caliber HW2831A. It features a compensation gear profiling for more precise time indication.
Complications: Chronograph, Triple Retrograde
Case: 44mm
Crystal: Sapphire with Anti-Reflective coating
Water resistant: 100m
